BREAKING: Two Premier League games postponed and one moved forward this weekend

BREAKING: Two Premier League games postponed and one moved forward this weekend

Premier League football will resume this weekend, but three games will not be taking place.

Premier League football returns this weekend but Manchester United vs Leeds and Chelsea vs Liverpool have both been postponed.

As a mark of respect for the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96 on Thursday, matches in the Premier League, EFL, WSL and National League were called off.

The decision was widely unpopular but now some teams will be even further behind in the schedule after an announcement from the Premier League was made.

Chelsea's visit of Liverpool at Stamford Bridge was set to be the 4pm clash on Sky Sports on Sunday but is off due to policing issues a day before the Queen's state funeral.

United's game against rivals Leeds at Old Trafford has also been nixed for the same reason, while Brentford vs Arsenal has been brought forward to a 12pm kick-off on Sunday.

Brighton vs Crystal Palace remains off in relation to the planned rail strike, though all other games will take place.

The Premier League issued the following statement: "Premier League fixtures will resume this weekend after a pause to the season as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

"Seven of the 10 Premier League fixtures this weekend will be played, with three matches postponed due to events surrounding The Queen’s funeral.

"In addition, kick-off times will change for two Premier League matches.

"Matches postponed on Sunday 18 September are Chelsea’s matches against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, and Manchester United’s home match v Leeds United.

"Brighton & Hove Albion’s fixture against Crystal Palace, that was due to be played at 15:00 BST on Saturday 17 September, will also remain postponed."

It's been confirmed that Arsenal's Europa League clash with PSV Eindhoven on Thursday will be off, though the 5:30pm kick-off between Spurs and Leicester City is on as normal.
