The opening day fixtures for the 2023/24 Premier League season have been confirmed - and both Manchester City and Liverpool face notable matchups.

The new season will get underway in under two months, with the first fixture of the new campaign set for Friday, August 11 at 8pm.

That fixture will take place between newly-promoted Burnley and reigning treble winners Manchester City at Turf Moor - meaning an opening day clash against his former club for Clarets boss Vincent Kompany.

Liverpool, meanwhile, face the challenging task of being the first competitive opponents of new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino. As the Reds requested their opening fixture to be away from Anfield due to stadium redevelopments, that fixture will take place at Stamford Bridge.

The early kick-off on Saturday sees Arsenal host Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium, as Mikel Arteta's side look to start another Premier League title challenge.

Four fixtures are then pencilled in for the traditional 3pm Saturday slot. Two newly-promoted teams are in action, with Luton facing a tough trip to Brighton and Sheffield United hosting Crystal Palace.

Newcastle then host Aston Villa at 5:30pm in one of the biggest fixtures of the opening weekend.

Two fixtures are set for Sunday, including Chelsea vs Liverpool, with Brentford vs Tottenham the earlier 2pm fixture.

Erik ten Hag and Manchester United, meanwhile, entertain Wolves at Old Trafford on the Monday evening to round off the opening weekend
