Player Sent Off For Shocking Hip-High Challenge On Opponent, It's One Of The Worst You'll Ever See

Player Sent Off For Shocking Hip-High Challenge On Opponent, It's One Of The Worst You'll Ever See

The player was only shown a second booking for the challenge rather than a straight red.

A footballer who made a shocking hip-high tackle on an opponent has been slammed on social media after footage of the challenge went viral. Watch below:

A clip of the horror tackle from the Australian Collegiate League game between Sturt Lions and Adelaide Uni was posted to Twitter earlier this month.

In the video, a Lions player receives an underhit pass on the right wing.

Just as he is about to reach the ball, the man is taken out by a disgraceful lunge by an opposition player.

In the background, screams can be heard as one of the players' teammates remonstrates with the referee.

Amazingly, the player who was on the receiving end of the challenge was given a straight red card in the brawl that followed, while the guilty party was only shown a yellow – albeit his second of the match.

Twitter user Lino Fusco posted the video along with the caption: "Collegiate game today. Awful tackle.

"The player on the receiving end is only 19. Fortunately ok.

"Handbags followed and the player on the receiving end of this tackle was sent off with a straight red.

"The player making the tackle was given a yellow card - his second yellow."

The shocking challenge has prompted an angry reaction from football fans on Twitter.

"If this happens on the street, it's assault," wrote one user.

"That's not a red card, that's a prison sentence," added another.

A third replied: "Send this video to the league and challenge the rulings. That calibre of tackle warrants at least a three game suspension."

The video has now racked up nearly two million views on Twitter.
