Phil Foden’s Risk Pays Off As Star Closes In On New Bumper Manchester City Deal

Phil Foden’s Risk Pays Off As Star Closes In On New Bumper Manchester City Deal

Foden was named the PFA Young Player of the Year for the 21/22 season.

Phil Foden is set to see his wages at Manchester City rise significantly after playing the long game over his contract renewal at the club.

Foden was offered a £150,000 per week contract in the early stage of last season but chose not to accept. And now, his wait has brought a greater rewards.

According to the Daily Star, City upped their offer to £200,000 a week for their star man.

It has been reported that the new contract will be a six year deal, and the extra £50,000 per week will mean that Foden will take home an extra £15 million over the period. There were never any doubts over Foden’s commitment to City but he was eager to see what new signing Erling Haaland was going to be on before signing a new deal.

City’s new star striker Haaland is believed to be the club’s joint highest earner along side Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, with the pair on a reported £400,000 per week. Which would have been more than double of Foden’s wages if he had accepted the earlier offer.

The Etihad club also have an extremely lucrative bonus scheme which help take their players’ wages to much higher than first thought.

Foden is set to be taking home a weekly wage in the region of £250,000 depending on his and his team’s performances.

Spanish midfielder Rodri is in line to see his wages rise from £120,000 per week to £220,000. His new contract is in the process of being drafted. Pep Guardiola sees Rodri as a vital part of his future plans at the club, therefore wanted to tie the midfielder down despite him still having two years left of his current contract. With the new deal, it will see Rodri stay at City for an extra three years, till June 2027.

After winning their fourth Premier League title in five years, Guardiola and his team are not in the mood to stop. They will be targeting the elusive Champions League trophy in the new season, the only trophy that Guardiola is yet to win with the club.

With the signing of Haaland, it will put City as one of the red hot favourites for the competition. And the Norway super star has vowed to continue his fine goal scoring form that he showed during his time with Borussia Dortmund

He will be wearing the number 9 shirt after Gabriel Jesus vacated that number after sealing a £45 million to Arsenal

Haaland said: “I'm delighted to have been presented with the number 9. It's been part of my story over the last two years, both at club level and with the national team and I'm looking forward to continuing that at City.”

“It's a shirt that every striker aspires to and to wear it at one of the best clubs in the world is a dream come true. I can't wait to get started.”

It is billing up to be the another exciting season for City fans.
