Peter Crouch has reacted to Chris Wood's impending move from Burnley to Newcastle by declaring he is "available".

New Zealand international Wood is nearing a transfer to the North East after the Magpies activated his £25 million release clause, with reports that he travelled for a medical last night.

The former Leicester City and Leeds United man will become Newcastle's second signing under new ownership following the £12 million capture of Atletico Madrid and England right-back Kieran Trippier.

It's a monumental blow for Burnley to lose their talisman and the Clarets will now be searching for an adequate replacement.

And England legend Crouch, who played six times for Burnley at the end of his career, is throwing his name in the hat.

Burnley were the last club of Crouch's career and he hung up his boots at the end of the 2018/19 season at the age of 38.

These days he's been enjoying himself doing punditry, presenting and podcasting but we really hope Sean Dyche gets on the blower and gives him a call.

Burnley are currently 18th in the Premier League, level on points with Newcastle but with a superior goal difference.

The departure of Wood strengthens their relegation rivals and weakens their attack at the same time, with the 30-year-old hitting double figures in four Premier League consecutive seasons.

Most Premier League goals scored for Burnley since Chris Wood joined the club in 2017/18:

◎ 9 - Jay Rodriguez

His best tally came in 2019/20 when he notched 14 times as Burnley secured a top half finish.

Burnley paid a club-record £15 million to bring Wood to the club in 2017.
