Ousmane Dembele Left Barcelona Squad 'Stunned' With Joke Request After Signing New Deal

Ousmane Dembele left the Barcelona squad 'stunned' by announcing that he had requested the captaincy after signing a new deal.

Dembele has ended speculation about his future by penning a new two-year deal, which runs until 2024.

The Catalan giants announced the contract extension with an underwhelming unveiling that got slammed online, with Fulham savagely poking fun at them on social media.

Fresh reports claim Dembele made a request after he committed his future to Barca.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claim the 25-year-old left the Barca squad 'stunned' by hilariously revealing that he asked for the captain's armband as a sign of his commitment.

The speech went down well, as upon telling his teammates the request was a joke - the team erupted in laughter.

The report states Dembele is a 'figure for jokes' and is increasingly 'appreciated in the dressing room'.

The winger is set to enter the sixth season at the Camp Nou following his big-money move from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

He's largely failed to deliver on the hype, with injuries preventing a consistent run in the team.

Dembele scored just two goals in 32 appearances across all competitions last season.

Xavi clearly rates him, but the Frenchman will have competition for places following the club's signing of Raphinha.
