It has been 14 years since Paul Scholes scored that absolute rocket against Barcelona at Old Trafford. Can you believe it?

With an unbelievable passing range and a knack for scoring screamers, many consideredĀ the former Manchester UnitedĀ midfielder to be one of the most complete and gifted players of all time – even if he couldn't tackle to save his life.

He would relish the big occasion, too, and that strike in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Barca was not only a trademark hit, but it was against one of the very best teams in the world.

Just 14 minutes into the game, Scholes capitalised on an errant pass, took one touch and absolutely hammered the ball into the top corner, leaving Victor Valdes with no chance between the sticks.

The Ginger prince wheeled away in celebration after scoring arguably the most important goal for his United career.

That goal took United to the final in Moscow, where they would beat Chelsea on penalties to secure another historic Champions League win.

Scholes' finish from 25 yards out was the only goal of the tie against a Barcelona team that featured the likes of Lionel Messi, Xavi, Deco, Andres Iniesta and Samuel Eto'o.

Back in 2020, the former England international revealed that he 'miskicked' the ball when he scored that goal against Pep Guardiola's side.

"I miskicked it, personally. I sliced it off my foot," he told The Official Manchester United Podcast.
