Zlatan Ibrahimovic is considering a return to the Swedish national team for the World Cup.

The Manchester United striker retired from international football in 2016 after Euro 2016, finishing with 62 goals in 116 games for his country.

Following his ACL injury suffered at the back-end of last season, the 36-year old has barely featured for United this season this term, making just seven appearances.

However, with Sweden qualifying for the showpiece in Russia courtesy of a two-legged play-off victory over Italy, arguably their greatest ever player has expressed his interest in coming out of retirement.

"I miss the national team. If I want, I do it. I want to feel I can deliver a good performance," he told Swedish media, via AS.

"We'll see, it's a tough question. I want to feel that I can perform and give back. I don't want to come just because I'm somebody. The door isn't closed for anything."

When Sweden qualified for the tournament back in November, Ibrahimovic, nearing a return for United, sent out a typically brilliant tweet.

That social media post got everyone talking, but when Sweden coach Janne Andersson was asked about it in the wake of his team's victory, he was anything but happy.

As quoted by The Mirror, the 55-year old said:

"This is incredible! This player has just stopped to play with Sweden one year and a half ago and we are still here talking about him. Gosh, we need to talk about the great players we have in this team I believe.

"What I wanted to say was that this was the demonstration that our collective acted like this during the whole length of the play-offs. We have many heroes tonight. I am a bit moved but obviously very happy with the result."
