Xabi Alonso believes Bayern Munich will be his final club, the Spanish midfielder has confirmed in an interview with Marca.

The 34-year-old, who has won two Champions League title, two European Championships and a World Cup, was rumoured to be interested in a move to Serie A, with several Italian clubs wanting to bring the former Liverpool man on board over the Summer. However, a move to Italy is now off the table, with Alonso admitting that the German champions will be his final club.

"I think Bayern will be my last club. While my mind and body can bear it, I want to keep playing at the elite level.

"And that will be with Bayern - I do not think there is another step for me in senior football. I would go to Italy, but there is not time to give myself there."

Alonso's current deal with the Bavarian giants expires next Summer and the midfielder admits he doesn't know whether or not it will be extended.

"I have not decided. As the months pass, I will go slowly taking one direction or another.

"I'll see what I feel or whether the club sit down with me to discuss continuing or taking another path. I do not know what will happen. Time will tell. I do not burden myself with that. I have the freedom to decide and I do not set deadlines."

Alonso has made 84 appearances for Bayern since arriving at the Allianz Arena in 2014, scoring 8 goals.
