West Ham and the Metropolitan Police have opened an investigation after a video of a supporter shouting racial abuse towards Mohamed Salah emerged online.

Sádat Yazdani posted the video on Twitter and it has widely circulated on social media.

He captioned it: "I went to watch West Ham vs Liverpool and I was disgusted by what I was hearing. People like this deserve no place in our society let alone football matches."

In the shocking clip, one fan can be heard hurling racial abuse at Salah, screaming, "you f****** Muslim. F****** Muslim c***" as he prepared to take a corner in the first half.

As per The Guardian, West Ham are looking at CCTV footage from the London Stadium and co-operating with police as they look to find the offender.

A West Ham spokesperson condemned the Islamophobic behaviour and stressed a lifetime ban will be enforced should they identify the perpetrator.

"At West Ham United, we have a zero tolerance policy to any form of violent or abusive behaviour.

"We are an inclusive football club. Regardless of age, race, religion or belief, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment or disability, everyone is warmly welcomed at London Stadium.

"Anyone identified committing an offence will have their details passed to the police and will face a lifetime ban from London Stadium. There is no place for this kind of behaviour at our stadium."

Unfortunately this is not an isolated incident in English football in recent times, with Raheem Sterling, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Heung-Min Son among those to be on the receiving end of sickening abuse.
