Twitter Thread On Unai Emery In 2018 Goes Viral After Blasting His Appointment As Arsenal Manager

ESPN UK's David Cartlidge described Arsenal boss Unai Emery as too "pragmatic" and said he was "dogged by stubbornness with his systems."

A Twitter thread on Arsenal boss Unai Emery has become a viral hit after calling his appointment "underwhelming."

The 47-year-old Spaniard arrived at the Gunners in 2018 and succeeded the legendary Arsene Wenger at the club.

But Emery, who won silverware with both Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla, has been unable to replicate his success in England and is still waiting to capture his first trophy with the London club.

ESPN UK editor David Cartlidge created a thread that correctly predicted the woes of Arsenal under the Spaniard and argued the appointment of Mikel Arteta would have been "exciting."

According to Cartlidge, Emery is too "pragmatic, dogged by stubbornness with his systems."

And fans have flocked to the Twitter thread and have 100 per cent supported Cartlidge's analysis of Emery.

Arsenal are fifth in the Premier League after their opening ten matches, but their form has started to dwindle in their last three fixtures.

The Gunners came from behind in their Europa League fixture last week against Vitoria de Guimaraes to secure a 3-2 victory -- thanks mainly to Nicolas Pepe scoring two stunning free-kicks.

And Emery's woes continued last Sunday when his side blew a 2-0 lead against Crystal Palace to draw 2-2 at the Emirates.

The Arsenal boss faced further problems when club captain Granit Xhaka was subbed off and told fans to "f**k off" as he was booed off the pitch.

The former PSG and Sevilla manager refused to defend the 27-year-old midfielder after the match and insisted that the skipper should apologise to fans.

He told BBC Sport: "Yes [he should apologise].

"We make mistakes, we need to apologise and we suggested for him to do that.

"Really, he knows he was wrong and he feels inside very deep."

Arsenal will return to Premier League action on Saturday when they host Wolves at the Emirates.
