Newcastle United have been linked with a sensational move for Juventus midfielder Arthur - after 'promising' to save his career.

Eddie Howe's side recorded their first win of the season against Burnley on Saturday but are still three points from safety.

Investment is said to be coming in January and Calciomercato have claimed Arthur is high on their list of priorities.

The 25-year-old has struggled for game time this season and doesn't seem to be fancied by Max Allegri.

Injury has also limited him to just seven games all season, with a cumulative 166 minutes on the pitch.

Sevilla are said to be interested as well, with both teams ready to 'give him the opportunity to show off' in their respective leagues.

Arthur joined Juventus in 2020 from Barcelona, deal which saw Miralem Pjanic go the other way.

A technical midfielder, the Brazil international was tipped to become one of the world's best at a young age.

He won the Copa Libertadores with Gremio in 2017 before earning move to Barcelona in 2018.

Since then, he's won the Copa America with his country as well as the Coppa Italia with Juventus.

His last appearance came on October 30 and he's been on the bench for Juve's last five Serie A games.

Newcastle are now backed by a £301 billion Saudi-led takeover and will be desperate to avoid relegation.

Howe admitted last month the 'last thing on his mind right now' is the transfer market, wanting to get the best out of what he currently has.

"My immediate thought coming here was, 'The last thing I want to talk about is January,'" he explained.

"It honestly is. I wouldn't say it's not in my thoughts at all.

"There will obviously be different people who have done certain work that every football club has to prepare for transfer windows and loads of what if situations, but my thought is to get the best out of the players we have now.

"We have so many games between now and January.

"When I'm on the outside and I'm looking and I'm seeing reports linking Newcastle with this player, that player, it doesn't do the current players any good whatsoever to be reading headlines."

Other players linked with a move to St James' Park are Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier and Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard, along with Burnley duo James Tarkowski and Ben Mee.

Who do you think Newcastle will sign in the January transfer window?
