But three names mentioned in a report by The Sun are Burnley pair Ben Mee and James Tarkowski and England international Kieran Tripper, who would cost around £25 million.
Tripper would also demand big wages if he was to move, according to the report.
In addition to the above three names, Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic, who has scored 20 goals in 24 games for club and country so far this season, is also on Newcastle's radar.
Hoffenheim's midfield dynamo Florian Grillitsch is also believed to be a transfer target as Howe looks to secure Premier League safety.

6.8 passes to final third
3.5 accurate long balls

Newcastle managed to secure their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon against Burnley thanks to a 40th-minute strike from Callum Wilson.
They also managed to keep their first clean sheet of the season; a stat manager Eddie Howe was delighted with.
"It was a massive game for us today," he told the BBC. "I was well aware of the importance of the fixture and I thought the lads really responded after the first 20 minutes.
"I thought we were very good today especially from a defensive perspective."
