In what will come as a surprise to absolutely fucking no one, Liverpool are interested in signing a player with a connection to Southampton.

The Reds have made a habit over the last few years of signing pretty much any player who enjoys a successful run of form with the Saints, having brought Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren, Sadio Mane and Virgil Van Dijk to Anfield as well as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who although signed from Arsenal, started his career at St. Mary's.

Now, it is being reported that Jurgen Klopp is eyeing a move for former Southampton and current Tottenham midfielder, Victor Wanyama.

The Kenyan has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since arriving in North London 18 months ago, although struggles with injury have limited him to just 11 appearances, this season.

The 26-year-old's absence has been noticeable, with Mauricio Pochettino's men struggling to crack into the top four in the Premier League, this season, currently sitting in fifth place, a point behind London rivals Chelsea.

Now, the Mail are reporting that Jurgen Klopp has turned his attention towards Wanyama, with Emre Can set for a summer move to Juventus.

Given Klopp is currently short of top quality options in midfield, Wanyama would represent an ideal replacement and dare I say, upgrade, for the outgoing Can.

RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita will also be arriving in the summer, but Klopp is believed to want to bolster the middle of the park, even more. And Steven Gerrard believes a move for Wanyama makes a lot of sense, given the different options the Kenyan offers to Keita and how he would slot into Jurgen Klopp's 4-3-3 system.

Speaking on BT Sport, Gerrard said, "A Wanyama-type player who does sit in and is disciplined, and he would give more protection to the back four.

"Emre Can's leaving, obviously Keita's coming in. But Keita is a No 8, Keita is a dribbler, and a runner.

"The way he (Klopp) plays he plays 4-3-3 more often than not. So you can accommodate a Henderson and a Keita."

Manchester United and Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in Wanyama, although Liverpool's large ex-Southampton contingent may be able to swing the midfielder towards Anfield if Liverpool can make Spurs an offer they can't refuse for the 26-year-old.
