Jose Mourinho is reportedly looking to make a swoop for Ruben Loftus-Cheek and bring him to the Stadio Olimpico.
Italian outlet Il Romanista claims that the AS Roma boss is keen to make a move for the midfielder, who has come back into contention at Stamford Bridge under Thomas Tuchel.
The same article states that Mourinho will now call upon former Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham to help lure the 25-year-old to the Italian capital.
Roma have endured a difficult campaign since Mourinho's arrival in the summer, and sit sixth in Serie A with 28 points from 17 games - 12 adrift of league leaders Inter Milan.
Despite topping their Europa Conference League group, Roma's one defeat in the group stages came in the form of an embarrassing 6-1 mauling at the hands of Norwegian side, Bodø/Glimt.
With the club facing another battle to secure European qualification for next season, Mourinho is looking to quickly recruit some new faces in January.
Abraham and Loftus-Cheek both progressed through Chelsea's academy together, and the Portuguese hopes that the pair's previous history will convince the latter to swap the Premier League for Serie A.
There are claims that Roma would prefer an initial loan deal for Loftus-Cheek with an option to buy, but it remains uncertain as to whether or not Chelsea would entertain such a deal.
The midfielder has made 17 appearances across all competitions for the Blues so far this season, registering three assists.
Meanwhile, Abraham is enjoying a solid first season in Italy after scoring 10 goals in 23 appearances for 'I Giallorossi'.
It will be interesting to see if there is an Italian reunion between the pair in the New Year.
