Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani is on the verge of leaving the club and could be in line to join Corinthians.

Cavani's contract at United is due to expire in June 2022 and has been widely tipped to leave Old Trafford, with Barcelona previously touted as a possible destination.

But Sport Witness revealed comments made by agent André Cury to journalist Jorge Nicola, with the former having worked on a number of high-profile deals over the years.

He believes there is a chance that the Uruguayan could be tempted by a return to South America and sign for the Brazilian side.

"He is unhappy at United. He's a guy I already know a little about his history because we almost brought him to Palmeiras the other time," Cury told Torcedores.

"He's a guy who owns a farm in Uruguay and likes to be close to home, so in that sense there might be some possibility. Now, obviously if he has an offer from Barcelona, he won't come to Brazil. If he has no choice other than Barcelona or that level of a big club that plays in the Champions League, then I think there's a chance for the deal to happen, yes."

The 34-year-old has been hampered by injuries this season and made just eight appearances across all competitions, scoring once in a 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in October.

There was speculation that 'El Matador' could have left Manchester at the end of last season, but agreed to a sign a new one-year deal in May.

United are due to return to action on 27th December when they face Newcastle United at St James' Park - a match that come three days before hosting Burnley at Old Trafford.

Their previous two fixtures against Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion were postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the club.
