Marouane Fellaini has played down speculation linking him with a sensational return to the Premier League, but he has revealed that he still talks to Jose Mourinho.

The Tottenham manager contacted Fellaini over a move to the club with the 32-year-old his main priority transfer target in January.

But the Belgium midfielder has confirmed he's "good" in China: "Jose is special for me," he told Eleven Sports.

"We text each other, we call each other from time to time," he added. "He's taken over at Spurs and he's doing well. I wish him all the best. But I am good where I am now."

Fellaini left Old Trafford for Shandon Luneng in January 2019 after five-and-a-half years in Manchester. He has performed heroically in China, weighing in with 12 goals and five assists.

He's contracted with Shandon Luneng until December 2021 with an option of an additional year.

Though it appears Mourinho will have to look elsewhere as he seeks to reinforce his squad with the window reopening in the new year.

Gareth Bale has also been heavily linked with a move to Spurs. He has been the subject of intense transfer speculation and the player's agent Jonathan Barnett provided an update on his future.

"He has never asked to leave," Bale's agent said. "He has a contract with Real Madrid and as long as they want him, there's not much anyone can do about it."
