Arsenal and Liverpool aren't only going to be battling it out for a place in the top four, this season, at least if the recent reports coming out of Spain prove to be correct.

The two Premier League teams are both believed to be eyeing a move for Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

Diario Gol have reported, via 101 Great Goals that the Costa Rican stopper is on the shopping lists of both Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klopp, with the Gunners and the Reds wanting to improve their current goalkeeping options.

While Petr Cech still has a couple of good years left in him, the former Chelsea man isn't the same presence as he once was between the sticks and hasn't had the impact many Arsenal fans were hoping for since his arrival in North London just over two years ago.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have been in urgent need of a top quality goalkeeper for some time, with Loris Karius failing to provide a reliable, trustworthy alternative to the shaky Simon Mignolet.

Navas was once set for a move to Manchester United as part of the now infamously botched David De Gea transfer to Real Madrid. Since then, however, the 30-year-old has firmly established himself as the number one choice at the Bernabeu and was considered unsellable by the Los Blancos board during this summer's transfer window.

Despite Real's reluctance to sell, Arsenal and Liverpool are set to test the European and Spanish champions' resolve, potentially as early as January, although a summer move would perhaps be more likely, with Zinedine Zidane unlikely to want to part with his first choice goalkeeper halfway through the season.

Serious bids for Navas could trigger Real into a big money move for either De Gea or AC Milan youngster Gianluigi Donnarumma, who performed a u-turn on his desire to leave the San Siro over the summer to pen a new deal with the Rossoneri. Yet if a record breaking offer came Milan's way for the teenager, it's unlikely the seven time European champions would be able to resist Real's overtures.
