Toni Kroos believes Paul Scholes was a superior midfielder than Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard as he handed down his verdict on one of football's hotly debated topics.

"I'd like to think I played a little bit like Luka Modric," the Manchester United legend said.
"He's different to me because he was quicker than me, he can beat a man, but I see certain traits in him, like controlling a game.
"When I watch those two for Real Madrid in those great European Cup-winning teams, they're the two.
"It's probably more towards Toni Kroos, as a passer and more of a controlling player. He doesn't really get involved physically with people and scores the odd goal here and there.

When asked who was the best of the three, the former England international responded: "Stevie G and Frank, of course.
"I'm sick to death of hearing about this, to be honest. It doesn't really matter. People can have their own opinions.
"Them two were amazing, amazing players. But very different players."
