Timo Werner has admitted to feeling more "comfortable" playing for Germany than Chelsea, in a thinly-veiled dig at Thomas Tuchel.

Werner and Blues teammate Kai Havertz were back on target during Germany's 2-0 win over Israel on Saturday, with the former RB Leipzig man now on 22 goals in 48 appearances for his country.

In the Premier League this term, meanwhile, Werner has found the net just once in 14 outings and has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at Stamford Bridge.

With injuries and a bout with COVID, he's only made eight league starts and after finding the net on international duty, Werner gave an honest interview where he revealed he much prefers playing for Hansi Flick and Germany.

"I'm a striker and always want to score," Werner said post-match, as per football.london.

"Things aren't going the way I'd like at Chelsea, so it's all the better that things are going well here under Hansi Flick.

"I really enjoy playing football, no matter where I'm playing. There are differences in the style of play between football at Chelsea and here.

"Maybe the one at the national team suits me better. Here, I always have scoring chances, I can score goals. I feel very comfortable here."

Although not as explosive and outspoken, the comments aren't too far off what Romelu Lukaku said in THAT controversial Sky Italia interview in December.

Lukaku had said he was "not happy with the situation", took aim at Tuchel for not playing to his strengths and reaffirming his desire to return to Inter Milan in the future.

He was fined and axed from squads as a punishment before apologising and returning to the fold.

Werner signed a five-year contract with Chelsea in 2020 after they activated his ยฃ47.5 million release clause.

He's scored 19 goals in 80 appearances and was part of the side that won the Champions League last season.
