So, so bad

During his time as Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has been subject to a set of increasingly embarrassing stats, but the worst one yet has been reported by Oliver Kay of The Times and it will have United fans shaking their heads in disbelief.

Shockingly enough, the stat isn't the one about how, following back-to-back defeats against West Brom and Liverpool in the past week, Van Gaal's team have lost the same amount of games since December (9) as relegation threatened Newcastle, who have this week replaced manager Steve McClaren.

Instead, Kay reports that the Red Devils have recorded one or zero shots on target in eight of their past 30 Premier League games and six of their last 21.

"A statistical trawl yesterday revealed that United have managed one or zero shots on target in no fewer than eight of their past 30 Barclays Premier League matches and in six of the past 21.

"For a club of United's resources, that is as extraordinary as it is embarrassing. To put that in context, in Ferguson's final ten seasons in charge, spanning 380 Premier League games, it happened only 15 times, which was no doubt 15 too many for the Scot's liking."

The stat highlights just how far United have fallen since Ferguson's retirement in 2013 and also how out of touch Van Gaal seems to be with the rest of the club, as he still seemingly believes his oft derided philosophy is working.
