John Newman's 'Love Me Again' has been named the greatest ever FIFA song in a new study.

With so many iconic tracks on FIFA over the years, GAME analysed all 794 songs between FIFA 98 and FIFA 20 to come up with 'the Ultimate FIFA soundtrack index'.

And after looking at Spotify streaming data which was correct as of September 22, the commercial success of each song and the peak chart position, it's John Newman's only UK number one that sits atop the top 20.

The song, which was on FIFA 14, earned the 30-year-old £1,148,584 in Spotify streaming royalties after it was streamed over 335 million times.

'Mercy' by Duffy from FIFA 09 takes the runners up medal, garnering over 150 million streams and also giving the Scottish singer a number one hit in the United Kingdom.

FIFA's soundtrack focuses on new artists but also has a history of showing love to songs of the past - hence the classic chart-topper 'Town Called Malice' from 'The Jam' back in 1983 coming in third position thanks to its 85 million streams - many of which will have stemmed from its appearance on FIFA 2004.

'The Nights' by the late Swedish DJ Avicii rounds off the top five. The most streamed of all the FIFA songs with an incredible 615 million plays on Spotify, it made navigating the FIFA 15 menus that much more enjoyable.

'Kids' by MGMT', 'Untouched' by Australian twin sister act The Veronicas, Sam Sparro's hit 'Black and Gold' and The Hoosiers 'Goodbye Mr A' all feature in a nostalgic-heavy top twenty that brings back all sorts of memories.

Surprisingly, Blur beat Oasis in the Britpop battle as 'Song 2' finished six places higher than 'Lyla' despite the latter single being a number one for the outspoken Gallagher brothers.

Billie Eilish's song 'you should see me in a crown' from FIFA 19 completes the list after it was the second-most streamed song from the franchise and saw the 18-year old megastar collect a cool £1.7 million.

The FIFA 21 soundtrack was released last week and it remains to see if the likes of Dua Lipa, Aitch, Stormzy, Dave, Glass Animals and Tame Impala can cement their place in history.

For the first time ever, songs that appear in the VOLTA section of the game, which has a great tie-in with the UK rap and grime scene, can now be played in all of the other game modes by changing your settings.
