Liverpool legends Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher were the ultimate professionals during their time at Anfield and a story that's recently emerged from former teammate Peter Crouch proves it.

Crouch has spoken about his early days at Liverpool in his latest Daily Mail column, revealing what both Gerrard and Carragher did in a training session to test every player.

"During my first training session with the club, there was one person who I was desperate to impress - and it wasn't manager Rafa Benitez," the Stoke City forward revealed in the column.

Crouch went onto speak about how he wanted to impress Gerrard, as well as the test both he and Carragher gave each player:

"I am not being disrespectful to Rafa, as without him I wouldn't have moved to Anfield, but that first session it was all about winning over Steven Gerrard.

"He and Jamie Carragher had a test where they would fire a ball into you and if your control was not good, you were on the back foot with them."

Gerrard has been tipped to become the next Rangers manager in recent days, and Crouch has tipped him to go a long way in management.

Rangers chairman Dave King was spotted at Anfield for the Liverpool match on Tuesday night - and a lot of Gers fans though he could have been in Merseyside for talks with Gerrard.

"The reputation Stevie had even then made me think he would go into management in later life, so I am not surprised that Rangers want him to revive their fortunes.

"Anyone who steps on to a training pitch with him will know instantly about the standards that he demands. His name will go a long way."

Do you think former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard would become a good manager?
