Frank Lampard Holds Worst Premier League Points-Per-Game Record For Any Chelsea Boss Under Roman Abramovich

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich insisted that Blues legend Frank Lampard will "always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge."

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard will leave Stamford Bridge as the Blues manager with the worst Premier League points-per-match record for any head coach under the Roman Abramovich era.

The 42-year-old outgoing Blues manager was under intense pressure as Chelsea languished in ninth place -- 11 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester United.

And Chelsea today announced that they have axed Lampard after "recent results and performances have not met the club's expectations."

However, Lampard now holds the unfortunate accolade of the Chelsea manager who has the worst points-per-match record in the top-flight English league.

The former Chelsea head coach managed 57 Premier League matches and only secured on average 1.67 points.

Lampard's points-per-match record puts him bottom of the pile, with Andre Villas-Boas narrowly edging him out with an average of 1.70 points.

Abramovich, who became Chelsea owner in 2003, paid tribute to Lampard in an official club statement and wished him "every success in the future."

The 54-year-old billionaire said: "This was a very difficult decision for the club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him.

"He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers.

"On behalf of everyone at the club, the board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as head coach and wish him every success in the future.

"He is an important icon of this great club and his status here remains undiminished. He will always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge."

Former Paris Saint-Germain head coach Thomas Tuchel has emerged as the favourite to succeed Lampard at Chelsea.
