Roy Hodgson lived long enough in the England job to become a villain, pretty much like every other England managers there's been in fairness. But after the horror show of the Euros the former England boss is back in football.

Hodgson's tenure as England manager will forever be summed up by the disasters that his England team had at the World Cup in 2014 and two years later in the Euros in France.

For the two years between those tournaments Hodgson experimented with different formations and attempts to play more exciting football with new players, at both of those tournaments he resorted to type with 'dire' consequences.

The losses to Italy and Uruguay that saw them go home stupidly early in Brazil were somewhat acceptable but the utter shit show that was the last 16 loss to Iceland in France last summer was too far and he had to go.

Since then Hodgson has wandered the footballing wilderness, where Alan Curbishley is mayor, chief of police and runs the local post office, but now the 69 year old is back taking an advisory role with Melbourne City.

The club's executive is former Manchester City football administrator Brian Marwood and his friendship with the former West Brom manager is what has taken him to the role in Australia.

Melbourne are currently without a full time manager as Michael Valkanis is in the caretaker role however despite the fact that Hodgson will spend time with the coaching staff the Birmingham Mail say there's no change of Hodgson taking the manager's job.

On Thursday the caretaker manager said of the new appointment, "That's why it's so good being a part of this group, the City Football Group. It's great when you get football people together.

"A 10-minute conversation [today] ended up being one hour. We're so lucky to have him here ... he's a man with a wealth of experience that can help."

Good luck Roy, it can't end as badly as your last job!
