Ahead of the Champions League semi-final clash between Liverpool and AS Roma this evening, trouble has broken out in the city centre and around the stadium.

Footage allegedly showing a group of Roma supporters clashing with Mersey Police emerged, just hours before kick-off.

The incident occurred outside of a pub where supporters were drinking before the game and as you can see below, police or security staff can be seen attempting to end the violence, report The Daily Record.

Then around half an hour before kick-off, Roma fans attacked Liverpool supporters with belts, outside the Albert.

Sunday Times correspondent Jonathan Northcroft described how around 20 Roma fans attacked as they picked out an older Liverpool supporter.

The following footage was captured on the scene:

This isn't the first incident that has involved Liverpool in some way on a Champions League night. Manchester City were given a warm welcome by the Liverpool fans as they arrived at Anfield in the quarter final.

Liverpool fans congregated outside the stadium to greet the City team by launching all sorts of missiles at the bus.

Jurgen Klopp warned fans to not attack the Roma team bus ahead of kick-off this evening, but it seems the away fans have caused more trouble than the home support on this occasion.

"I think that is really clear, in the stadium do it again and better," Klopp said before the match.

"Outside the stadium, please show the respect we have to show. This is such a fantastic football club, such an outstanding football family known for fantastic atmospheres around the world, so we don't need to throw whatever at the bus of the opponent's team."
