Riyad Mahrez wasted no time in grabbing a phone and complaining to the Manchester City bench about Mohamed Salah's first-half goal.

Andy Robertson whipped in a superb cross to the back post where Liverpool star Salah came charging in and smashed home a powerful header.

While questions were raised over the 27-year-old Egyptian winger being onside, Salah's goal stood and Liverpool managed to avoid any more VAR drama at Anfield.

Mahrez, who was an unused substitute, was caught showing City assistant coach Mikel Arteta and his teammates a replay of the goal.

And some eagle-eyed fans took to social media to question how he managed to use a phone during the match.

Liverpool put on a superb performance to beat City 3-1 and move nine points clear of the defending Premier League champions.

The Reds successfully put City's weakened backline under pressure and opened the scoring in the sixth minute thanks to a superb long-range effort from Fabinho.

Salah doubled Liverpool's lead in the 13th minute and put Jurgen Klopp's men in a comfortable position before half-time.
