Rio Ferdinand would like to see Jack Grealish in a Manchester United shirt next season but admits the deal could be a 'difficult' one.

The Aston Villa captain, who was a huge influence in the club's Premier League 2020/21 campaign, has been strongly linked with a move in recent months, with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City rumoured to be interested.

Manchester United are also long-term admirers of the 25-year-old England international. In fact, rumours intensified last month when Grealish 'liked' a tweet about joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side on his official page.

Grealish's agent Jonathan Barnett has recently downplayed the chances of the player joining United, saying the club wasn't at the top of a list who are interested in his signature, but Rio Ferdinand wants to see it happen.

He does, however, believe the deal would be difficult because of the club's riches in attacking areas.

In an exclusive interview with UMM for the latest episode of their 'Assumptions' series, Ferdinand spoke on whether he would like to see Jack Grealish at Old Trafford next season.

"All day long man. But I don't even think (Bruno) Fernandes that's the problem (for the move to happen). You've got Rashford and Pogba that are both playing on the left, which is where Jack plays.

"Jack's best position is on the left, and the next best position you'd imagine would be number 10. They're the positions where our most influential players in terms of attacking positions are, so I think it's difficult to see him at Manchester United right now.

"Unless they ship one or two of the boys away, I see it as a difficult deal to be done."

Another person who believes Grealish would be a perfect fit at Old Trafford is former Manchester United assistant Rene Meulensteen.

He thinks the Aston Villa playmaker has all the right attributes to become a star under Solskjaer.

"A player like Grealish, he would have the DNA to play for Man Utd and the stature for it and he would have the ambition but it would change the outlook of the team," he said.

"He is a ball hogger, he likes to dribble and create things for himself."
