Premier League champions Manchester City picked up another three points against Tottenham on Monday night after Riyad Mahrez's early strike earned them a deserved victory.
But an incident involving their left-back Benjamin Mendy has somewhat put a dampener on the performance at Wembley. In the 91st minute, Mendy looked to throw a punch at Tottenham's Eric Lamela.
Thankfully the Frenchman missed completely, instead swiping mid-air.
It went unnoticed by the officials but many believe the World Cup winner should receive retrospective action for his reaction.
One twitter user said: "Oh and on a side note if Mendy doesn't get a ban for that attempted punch on Lamela I'd be shocked! Absolutely disgusting behaviour from a professional footballer!"
While another said: "Benjamin Mendy, beyond having two poor mistakes today, should've seen a straight red for this. Cannot even imagine if it landed; could've seriously hurt Lamela. He deserves a ban if there's retrospective action."
Ben Mendy should definitely receive a ban by the way for trying to punch Lamela- Tom Ward (@tomward77) October 29, 2018
Remember Dele Alli getting a 3 match ban for an 'attempted' punch against West Brom a few years back after later being watched & charged by video evidence, let's hope Mendy recieves the same treatment from the FA after tonights assault- Gareth Hughes (@Gazspurs46) October 30, 2018
Mendy should get a long ban for that!!- Chris Thompson (@F1CWT) October 29, 2018
Imagine if Mendy connected with that hook? Would have KO'd Lamela easy and got a lengthy ban...- Zach :flag_us: (@zcgoss) October 29, 2018
Thoughts on the above incident? Does Mendy deserve to be banned?
