It has been a tough number of months for former Premier League defender Emmanuel Eboue, but the charismatic Ivorian put a smile on all our faces when he made his emotional return to the pitch on Sunday.

Eboue came on as a substitute during a legends game against Real Madrid, joining the likes of Nicolas Anelka and Sol Campbell in what was an entertaining game at the Bernabeu.

The hashtag #YouveOnlyComeToSeeEboue did the rounds as he put on the Arsenal jersey once again.

It was by far the best moment of the game.

Eboue picked up millions during spells at Arsenal, Galatasaray and Sunderland, but the 35-year-old shockingly revealed that he has been pushed to the brink of suicide following troubles in his life.

In a heartbreaking interview with The Mirror, Eboue spoke about how he sometimes slept on the floor of a friend's home and hid from Βbailiffs on a daily basis. He went on to claim that he cleaned his clothes by hand because he had no washing machine.

Months later, it looks like Eboue is getting his life back on track.

He hasn't lost his ability on the pitch, that's for sure. Just check out this marauding run from deep:

Back in December, he was unable to play football because of ill-health.

Eboue was involved in a divorce battle with wife Aurelie which has resulted in all of their assets being awarded to her.

He was ordered by a judge to transfer his home to Aurelie, so the former Arsenal defender has since hidden from bailiffs for three weeks.

"I can't afford the money to continue to have any lawyer or barrister. I am in the house but I am scared. Because I don't know what time the police will come." Eboue told The Mirror.

"Sometimes I shut off the lights because I don't want people to know that I am inside. I put everything behind the door."

Eboue was one of the most likable characters during his time in the Premier League.

It's great to see him back on the pitch and enjoying his football.
