Thiago Silva was sent off for Chelsea against West Brom on Saturday after his attempted shot block resulted in a clumsy challenge on Okay Yokuslu.

Chelsea hosted West Brom at Stamford Bridge for their Premier League clash and took the lead in the first half through Christian Pulisic.

However, Silva received an early warning as he was booked for his foul on Matheus Pereira in the fifth minute.

The 36-year-old Brazilian centre-back's early challenge would come back to haunt him as he received his second booking in the 29th minute.

Silva attempted to block Yokuslu's shot, but he instead managed to catch the 27-year-old Turkish midfielder long after the ball had flown away.

Referee David Coote handed Silva his marching orders as the Blues were reduced to 10 men at Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea fans were furious with the decision and questioned how the former Paris Saint-Germain star was booked for a second time over him 'blocking a shot.'

Silva's costly dismissal allowed West Brom to benefit as Pereira scored twice in first-half injury time to send Sam Allardyce's side into a 2-1 lead.

Full-time result: Chelsea suffered a shock 5-2 defeat to West Brom at Stamford Bridge.

Callum Robinson scored twice in the second half and Mbaye Diagne also added his name to the scoresheet as Sam Allardyce's men sealed a sensational win.

Mason Mount scored in the second half for Chelsea, but the Blues were unable to make a comeback against the Baggies.

Chelsea are currently fourth in the Premier League and are two points ahead of fifth-place West Ham.

West Brom, meanwhile, secured an important three points in their relegation battle as they sit seven points behind 17th-place Newcastle.
