BT Sport were forced to apologise after Newcastle United fans could be heard singing about Robbie Savage.

The away end began to chant mercilessly about Savage by singing: "Robbie Savage, you're a w**ker" during Newcastle's FA Cup third round fixture with Rochdale.

Commentator Peter Drury immediately addressed the chant before issuing an apology to BT Sport viewers.

"We apologise for the bad language for the supporters, we are right among them as you can probably here," he said during the broadcast.

Needless to say, Newcastle's chant about Savage sent social media into overdrive.

"'Robbie Savage is a wanker' chant probably the clearest chant I've ever head and BT can't do anything about it," one social media user wrote.

A second tweeted: "We're 15 minutes into the FA Cup third round and Rochdale and Newcastle United fans are chanting 'Robbie Savage is a is a w*nker' with Robbie Savage on commentary. What a time to be alive."

A third added: "A lot of problems BT are currently having could be easily resolved if Robbie Savage wasn't a w**ker."

The Premier League side currently lead 1-0 thanks to a goal by Miguel Almiron.
