Rafael van der Vaart joked that Manchester United captain Harry Maguire goes home and tells his wife, "I'm so sh*t at football but I earn so much".

The former Netherlands international, who played for Ajax, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur, was analysing United's 5-2 win over Bournemouth on Ziggo.

England defender Maguire was incredibly shaky in the game and was at fault for the opening goal where he was mercilessly nutmegged by Junior Stanislas.

His performance prompted Van der Vaart to weigh in with some quite outrageous criticism of his footballing abilities.

The video of the 37-year old's brutal put-down has been geo-blocked but has been translated and quoted.

The former Hamburg midfielder is clearly not a fan of Maguire as this is the second instance he has launched a scathing attack on the ex Leicester City centre-back.

In October, he compared the 27-year old to Sunday League defenders and claimed Virgil van Dijk is worth €300 million (Β£258 million) based on the England international's Β£80 million transfer to Old Trafford last summer.

"When I go to see an amateur club on Sunday, I can find 3 players who can play like him," he said on Dutch television during United vs. Liverpool.

"I mean that. It might be silly to say it but he won't hear it anyway. We are talking about a €90 million signing here. Then Van Dijk is worth €300 million."
