The Premier League could make its sensational return on 8th June in the hopes of fully completing the 2019-20 campaign, according to reports.

England's top-flight league, along with Europe's other major leagues, has been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But Sky Sports now reports that the earliest date the English season could restart is in early June.

Premier League clubs took part in a meeting on Friday, with many still backing the idea that the season must be finished in its entirety.

However, proposals for the Premier League to return on 30th June were not raised during the meeting.

The clubs, who were represented on a video call, were shown different plans for how matches could restart and how they could be played across June, July and August.

Sky Sports reports that the Premier League won't push ahead with the plans until the government 'declares it is safe to do so.'

Premier League teams currently have either nine or 10 matches left to play before the domestic season is complete, which could still be finished across five weeks.

But Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, speaking on behalf of the government, confirmed on Thursday that the UK lockdown was extended for "at least" another three weeks.

Should the government allow clubs to start retraining soon, then matches could start again in time for the 8th June target date.

According to Sky Sports, players' training sessions could be 'controlled' to ensure that 'players were kept a safe distance apart.'

And the publication reports that one of those options could include players driving to training grounds in their kits to avoid unnecessary contact time with teammates.

Earlier reports had suggested that the Premier League could use a five-week timetable to see the season out in its entirety.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has also outlined with three different dates for when the season could return amid the coronavirus outbreak.
