If the decision goes ahead then the season would not be cancelled, so Liverpool could still be crowned champions.

A group of Premier League clubs are set to come together to try and end the season by June 30th, in order to prevent the end of players' contracts impacting on the season.

According to the Mirror, up to nine clubs have spoken between themselves about making sure that the season can come to and end before the beginning of July.

The group of teams reportedly includes those who are still in with a big chance of qualifying for Europe next season and they will present their case to finish the season by the end of June at the latest Premier League meeting on Friday.

June 30th is particularly key to clubs because it is the date that many contracts expire for players and would mean that players were free to walk away from their current clubs, with the season still in progress.

Whilst FIFA have been hoping to find a way to make it so players could continue at clubs until the season can be finished there is no guarantee that could be legally binding for a player who does wish to leave.

The clubs at the heart of the new deadline want to find a formula that would allow the season to finish, even if all the games can't be played before the deadline.

There are either nine or 10 games left for each team, depending on the team, but Liverpool need just two wins to win the title.

Whilst that seems pretty cut and dry, considering their 25 point lead over Manchester City, working out next season's European places and the relegation battle to avoid relegation are far from over.

The Premier League wants the rest of the season to be played, most likely behind closed doors, and doesn't want to miss out on any money from broadcasting.

Initially a July 12th deadline was expected because of the television money but the clubs will push for this earlier finish after discussions between themselves.

The Belgian league is the only major league in Europe to have made any decision so far with the Jupiler league crowning Club Brugge as champions.

The league had just one game left in the normal season before the league was meant to split in two for a further 10 games for the top six teams to decide the champions.
