Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Must Honour Lionel Messi Shirt Bet With Andy Robertson

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will have to honour a Lionel Messi shirt bet he made with teammate Andy Robertson.

The Liverpool midfielder only has one shirt up in his house and that is six-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi's.

However, he did promise Robertson that he would frame a shirt the Scotsman gave to him if he got 10 assists this season.

The former Hull City left-back has managed 11 in the Premier League and so 'Ox' is now obliged to do the honours because, as we know, a deal is a deal.

He was asked about it the bet in a Carpool video filmed in 2019 but only recently shared on Liverpool's YouTube channel.

"There's only shirt up in the house and it's not moved - it's Messi's shirt," Oxlade-Chamberlain states.

"I said I'd remove that and put Robbo's shirt up if he got 10 assists.

"Never have I seen anyone shank as many crosses onto someone's head. The answer is, no I haven't yet and it's not good enough."

This has been a rather long-standing bet that Ox discussed back in September as part of a Lie Detector test with two youngsters from the Liverpool academy.

He explained: "I do have a deal with him about assists.

"The deal was if he gets 10 Premier League assists this season, I will get a framed Andrew Robertson shirt to put in my house.

"And I'll put it next to [Lionel] Messi"s."

Robertson has once again reached double figures in assists this term, with his tenth setting up Sadio Mane against Arsenal. His most recent, in the pulsating 5-3 win over Chelsea at Anfield, was ironically for Oxlade-Chamberlain to score the final goal of the game.

If they've shook on it, then it's only right Oxlade-Chamberlain follows through. We're keenly awaiting a picture of Robertson's shirt being up there with Messi's in his house.
