It appears Nolberto Solano is heading back to England.

The Peruvian midfielder made his name at Newcastle United, enjoying a brilliant spell between 1998 to 2004 before returning to St. James Park in 2005.

He excited the Geordie faithfuls with his superb set-pieces while compiling over 170 Premier League appearances for them.

As well as Newcastle, Solano also plied his trade at West Ham, Aston Villa and then Leicester City & Hull City in the Championship.

While retiring with League One outfit Hartlepool United in 2012.

Since calling time on his playing career, Solano entered management. He took positions in his native Peru, but the 42-year-old is in line for a sensational return to these shores.

According to several reports, Solano is set to take charge of League One side Gillingham.

Aidy Pennock is currently the manager of Gillingham with the club wanting him to stay on for Saturday's game with Charlton before stepping aside for Solano.

Pennock has been at the helm since January 2017, though following a dismal start to the new season, his days are numbered.

The 'Gills' are bottom of League One with just three points to their name, and without a win from their opening seven league games.

Is 'Nobby' the man to steer them out of trouble?
