Kylian Mbappe is widely expected to leave Paris Saint Germain in the summer and join Real Madrid on a free transfer, but his teammates have not given up hope of convincing the Frenchman to stay at the club.

They presented him with a PSG shirt that had 'Mbappe 2050' on the back, as the young Frenchman celebrated his 23rd birthday on Monday.

The gift was given at a party for the 2018 World Cup winner, which included an 11-tier cake with sparklers.

But his teammates' tongue-in-cheek efforts appear to be in vain, with The Sun reporting that Mbappe could sign a pre-contract agreement with Los Blancos as early as next month.

The striker could line up against his future employers when PSG take on Real Madrid in the Champions League next month, in what is set to be a mouth-watering two-legged tie between the two European giants.

While Mbappe is expected to sign for Real in the summer, he has interestingly refused to rule out staying in the French capital beyond this season. To date, all that he has confirmed is that he will be playing for a big club next season.

The centre-forward has been in fine form for Mauricio Pochettino's side this season, scoring 15 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions.

He most recently scored a brace in a 3-0 win over Entente Feignies Aulnoye in a third round Coupe De France tie on Sunday.

Mbappe and PSG are next in action on Wednesday night when they travel to Lorient for a Ligue 1 fixture, with Pochettino's side 13 points clear of second-place Marseille.
