Marco Materazzi Doesn't Think Virgil van Dijk Is One Of The Best Centre-Backs In The World
Marco Materazzi doesn't rate Virgil van Dijk to highly.
The commanding No.4 has arguably been Liverpool's best player this season in the Premier League. He's performed heroically at the back, keeping clean sheets for fun.
Naturally, experts and fans reckon he's one of the best defenders in world football.
However, Materazzi fails to recognise Van Dijk as one of the best.
Right now, he reckons Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly, Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos and AC Milan's Alessio Romagnoli are among the strongest center-backs in world football.
"I think that right now, among the strongest centre backs are Koulibaly, Sergio Ramos and Romagnoli," the Italian defender said.
You can tell he's a former 'Blue'!
Van Dijk has been sensational for Liverpool as they mount a bid to win the Premier League title, and Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison believes he's in with a shout for 'PFA Player of the Year'.
"Yeah I think he's a contender," Morrison said before hyping up his teammate Sadio Mane.
"Obviously I think Van Dijk has been outstanding but Mane's been brilliant.
"He is more natural in front of goal [now]. I've looked at him a lot this season and the easier chances, sometimes he snatches at them and misses them.
"And when he gets the difficult chances, he puts them away.
"But he is in a rich vein of form, you ask any defender, they will not like to play against Sadio Mane."
The ex-Crystal Palace striker added: "He can go either way, inside, outside and nine times out of 10 he delivers.
"His assists are up there as well, he contributes a lot of assists and he scores a lot of goals.
"He's got a great chance of being up there for the awards.
"But I just think the season Van Dijk has had, he might just win it."
