Bastian Schweinsteiger is enduring a miserable spell at Manchester United failing to break into Jose Mourinho's starting XI, or, come to think it, any form of playing squad at Old Trafford but the German picked up an award off the pitch.

The World Cup winning midfielder has been "recognised for his contribution to the nation team with the 'Special Jury' prize at the BAMBI awards in Berlin", per ESPN.

On the prestigious gong, the BAMBI jury highlighted the 32-year-old's main attributes, saying; "With a hitherto unknown combination of discipline and effortless skill, Bastian Schweinsteiger has won the hearts of the fans and become one of Germany's best and most popular footballers."

With a 121 international caps to his name, the jury continued to heap praise on the ex-Bayern man; "His name symbolises sporting ambition and fair competition. He exudes both pure fighting spirit and a likeable, easy-going nature."

It will come as a welcome gift considering how Schweinsteiger has been treated by the Portuguese tactician, freezing him out of the side as he seeks a move away from the club with a potential switch likely for January once the transfer window reopens.
