As England played out the most horrific 0-0 draw with Costa Rica, to signify the end of their 2014 World Cup participation, the headlines were being made in the same group as Luis Suarez dug his teeth into Giorgio Chiellini and the Barca forward has spoken about the controversy.

I can remember watching both games, England on TV and Italy on my laptop- I wish it had been the other way round considering how piss poor England were- and no one could believe what happened with Suarez. The third time he'd bitten a player!

The then Liverpool striker had already been in trouble when at Ajax for biting and again for taking a nibble at Branislav Ivanovic in a game against Chelsea. He'd already been suspended for a total 17 games because of biting in just over three years because of biting.

Then against Italy, seemingly out of nowhere, Suarez had a nibble on Chiellini's shoulder. That caused him to miss the start of his Barcelona career but it also caused friction in his house as he lied to his wife about doing it. Talking to Onda Cero the 30 year old revealed:

"I hurt Sofia because I lied to her. She asked me (about biting Chiellini) and I denied it. I had trouble believing it, let alone saying it. I couldn't understand it. I hurt her because she knew I wasn't like that."

To be totally honest I'm not completely sure why or how he lied to his wife, we all watched the footage and it's pretty conclusive but whatever helps you sleep at night Luis, although by the sounds of things it didn't help you at all!

The incident cost Suarez more than an upset wife, and no doubt the price of a nice bunch of flowers to get back in her good books, but also four months of his career as he was banned from all football related activities, even his game on Football Manager lay dormant!

And the former Champions League winner also talked about his unfair punishment from FIFA adding, "You can punish someone, suspend them ... but to stop them going to a training centre, for example, to see my nephew train, that seems so unfair to me. I didn't understand it. Not at all.

"I didn't go to the FIFA gala and I will never go again. I have no problem saying I will never go to a FIFA gala."

Since moving to the Camp Nou Suarez has put his bad behaviour behind him and concentrated on scoring goals- that seems like the best course of action!

He's definitely learned his lesson, let's hope he's stopped lying to his wife too.
