Liverpool are said to be closing in on Bury youngster Emeka Obi, a 15-year old central defender who stands at 6 ft 5 tall.

The player recently made his Shakers debut in a Checkatrade Trophy game and Bury boss David Flitcroft has already heaped praise on the youngster, dubbing him a "man-mountain".

According to the Bury Times, Liverpool have near-enough completed a deal to sign the player, who has already put the club's name in his Twitter biography.

Relevant documentation has been signed, though the deal is yet to officially go through due to both clubs waiting for confirmation from the FA and Football League and also the fact the youngster has Nigerian roots, which has brought about Visa problems in the deal.

Flitcroft believes Obi, who spent time on trial at Stoke City, is the best player in the country for his age group.

Speaking back when Obi made his debut back in August, he said:

"I think he's the best talent right now at 15 years old in the entire country. He only came in the building two years ago and nothing fazes him.

"He's been training with the first team and he's going back to school next week. We've had him for five weeks, training with the first team, training with Ryan Kidd and he's been playing with the under-18s.

"He's just turned 15, he's a man mountain, but we teach them how to play football and he's going to be an unbelievable asset to the football club.

"He's a kid that's really switched on, I've watched him while he's been on summer holidays and he's been in every single day."

Liverpool will reportedly pay a six figure sum for the youngster.
