Lionel Messi phoned in to a radio show Sergi Roberto was appearing on and showered his teammate with praise.

Roberto was in the studio for RAC1's latest show, which came a year to the day that he scored the memorable goal against PSG to complete the greatest comeback in Champions League.

Messi, not always too talkative when it comes to the media, called in and spoke glowingly of Roberto. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner told him: "You have become of the best full-backs in the world." Brilliant stuff.

Roberto, a fellow La Masia product, is a central midfield player by trade but has transitioned into a right-back in the last couple of seasons.

The signing of Nelson Semedo from Benfica looked set to limit his game-time this term but he's been in brilliant form, making 18 La Liga starts.

According to Messi though, the 26-year old was initially sceptical in making the positional switch.

As translated by reddit user 'Alexdd0007', Messi's full message reads:

"Hi Sergi! Just wanted to be present in this programme you're a guest on, I remember that goal [against PSG] was incredible, you did very well that day.

"Wanted to congratulate you for that, your contract extension, I still remember that when you started to play as a fullback, I asked you if you liked it there, and your face told me no, and today you have become one of the best fullbacks in the world, so hopefully it keeps going like this, and that we can enjoy and share many more years. I send you a big hug and the best for you."

Roberto made his debut in 2010 and has become a very useful player for the Blaugrana, who value him so highly that they tied him down to a new deal and included a whopping 500 million euros release clause in his contract.
