A Chelsea fan claims Frank Lampard is better suited to being England manager than Gareth Southgate.

Southgate made history at Euro 2020 by guiding England to their first major tournament final for 55 years, before they lost in agonising fashion on penalties to Italy at Wembley.

The Three Lions boss has received widespread praise for the spirit and togetherness he has created amongst the England squad, who inspired the nation and have proven to be a side the public could be proud of.

But Blues fan Jack rang in to talkSPORT last night to share his view that Chelsea and England legend Lampard would be a better fit.

He believes the former Derby County boss would get more out of England's exciting young players and is a better manager.

The supporter's comments were challenged by host Andy Goldstein, who was not having Jack's points whatsoever.

"Frank Lampard would do a better job as England manager and getting the best out of this players than Gareth Southgate would," Jack said.

"Whether or not he wins the World Cup, he will get better performances. Southgate's first tournament in charge was the World Cup and to be honest with you, the teams that we played, probably you, Andy, could have got us to a semi-final.

"I think Frank Lampard is a better manager than Southgate because of what he's actually achieved in his managerial career."

Southgate is now embarking on a break after an exhausting but enjoyable Euro 2020 campaign but has already stated his interest in taking charge of the national team for the next year's World Cup in Qatar.

FA chief Mark Bullingham wants the former Middlesbrough manager to sign a new contract until the 2024 Euros.

"I don't think now is an appropriate time to be thinking about it," Southgate said as per Sky Sports.

"We have to qualify for Qatar. I need time to go away and reflect on Euro 2020. I need a rest.

"I said at the time it is great to have that internal support, you greatly value that as a manager.

"I don't want to commit to anything longer than I should and I don't want to outstay my welcome so all of those things need consideration.

"I want to take the team to Qatar, I feel we have made progress over the four years, we have had a fourth, a third and a second-placed finish and that is as good as anyone."
