Jose Mourinho's Promise To Harry Kane In First Meeting Has Resurfaced

Jose Mourinho and Harry Kane's first meeting has resurfaced after the Spurs striker's incredible form under the Portuguese manager.
In the superb Amazon Prime 'All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur' documentary, viewers got to see a fascinating exchange between the new Spurs boss and his talisman.
Mourinho invited Kane into his office for a chat and immediately told him he had big plans for him.

Already well aware of his attacking attributes, he spotted Kane's leadership qualities in training and promised the England skipper he would "explode" under his tutelage.
"I believe that you have a very good relationship with Mauricio, I love that," Mourinho told Kane in the meeting.
"I always think, good relationship with the previous manager. Why not me?
"I saw you training yesterday and I have no doubts that you are a leader. That is my feeling. The world looks to English football with an incredible respect but they still think that the movie stars of football belong to other places.
"We have to build also your status in that direction. My profile, I am little bit like that as a coach. My dimension is universal and by being with me I think I can help you to... [makes explosion signal].
"What I don't accept, because it is my nature, is to be here and win nothing. But I feel that we can because of you.
"You have better players than I had at Manchester United. The club has a lot [of potential] to explode."
Just over a year on from that conversation and it's fair to say that Mourinho has helped Kane's game evolve to a whole new level.
Since Kane and Mourinho linked up, the Spurs No.10 has 45 goal contributions - 27 goals and 18 assists in all competitions.
Kane was already among the best strikers in the world but he's become an even more complete player, with his link-up, defending and work-rate all sensational.

The reinvention has been quite something, with Kane putting in one of his very best all-round displays in the 2-0 win over Manchester City on Saturday - a result that took Spurs to the top of the table.
"He is messing with them like you wouldn't believe," Gary Neville said on commentary for Sky Sports.
"I remember a few years ago when they played at Wembley against Liverpool, Harry Kane was sensational, I think against Dejan Lovren that day - I think he got substituted.
"This is as good as I've seen him since then. He's had some brilliant games, but in a top game, a hard game against Man City, he's been spectacular."
