How England Could Have An Irish Double In The Next Two Rounds

How England Could Have An Irish Double In The Next Two Rounds

Think they'd take that.

With the Euros now including 24 teams it makes working out the next round a hell of a lot more difficult, not least because teams who would all be out still have a chance to qualify, it's not as simple as first in Group A plays second in Group B. However with all the possibilities that means England could face an Irish doubleheader in the next two rounds.

In order to fail to finish in the top two England would have to lose to Slovakia and Wales beat Russia but even then Roy Hodgson's men would have a pretty good chance of getting into the second round as four of the third placed sides will still be in the second round.

And after Northern Ireland's 2-0 win over Ukraine they have a very good chance of being in the next round, even if the lose to Germany. As per Dream Team FC, if England finish top of Group B and N. Ireland finish third in their group then there's a good chance they'll be up against England in the next round.

In the scenario Martin O'Neill's side would have to finish second in their group and set up a Last 16 match against the winners of Group F which could still be Portugal at this point but equally could be Hungary, Iceland or even Austria so close is that group in terms of points and quality.

A win for England and the Republic in those Second Round ties would mean a quarter final meeting between the two sides in a scenario that is so far looking pretty good for Roy Hodgson and his team.

Dream Team have done a lot of speculation in their results with Wales playing Hungary in another Second Round match although none of the scenario is particularly far fetched up until this point.

We reckon England would probably love this scenario having potentially got to the semi-finals without meeting a top side.
