The veteran Italian stopper Gianluigi Buffon has words of encouragement for Joe Hart in light of him being axed by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

The Spaniard opted for Willy Caballero during his first Premier League fixture, and continues to be heavily linked with Barcelona's Claudio Bravo.

Hart's City future appears to be coming to an end following his omission as well as the recent transfer rumours.

Though, Juventus' Buffon has backed the England international to regain his form. Speaking to Goal; "(Hart) has been in this position before, he was dropped two or three seasons back, and then when he returned he played some of the best football of his career."

Continues to add that he'll need to demonstrate his mental ability during a time like this; "The ability is there, we know he has that, but just as importantly he has character - and that is one of the most important qualities you can have as a goalkeeper."

"He has consistently over the last 5 or 6 seasons shown he is among the best goalkeepers in the world."

The 38-year-old also shared his thoughts on the current crop of talent, believing Hart is among one of the best; "De Gea and Neuer are the two outstanding goalkeepers right now, after that there is not anybody who is on an obvious higher level than Hart."

"He has many years of being a great goalkeeper ahead of him - no matter if they are at Manchester City or anywhere else."

Everton and Sevilla have emerged as potential suitors while his future remains subject to intense speculation.
