Gareth Southgate has dropped the first hint as who might be England's number one at the World Cup in Russia this summer by picking Everton keeper Jordan Pickford for the friendly against Netherlands.

Before the 2010 World Cup there was lots of questions as to who would be England's number one. Robert Green was in possession of the gloves, David James was the experienced head in the group and Joe Hart was the young upstart who was in form.

Check out Gazza's ultimate England XI:

In the end Green got the nod for the opening game simply because Hart didn't have the experience and typically Green made a huge error that England were never to really recover from.

The same fate could hit Gareth Southgate this summer only Hart this time is in the Green position with Jack Butland, Nick Pope, Tom Heaton and Jordan Pickford all fighting for Hart's role and hoping the current boss doesn't make Fabio Capello's mistakes.

So heading into the game against Netherlands on Friday we all held our breath to see who would be the Three Lions number one and now Southgate has revealed it'll be the Everton keeper Pickford, for now:

Pickford has conceded 50 time in between the sticks for the Toffees this season and kept just seven clean sheets in 31 appearances but considering he's used to playing behind a rubbish defence, having previously played for Sunderland, he'll have the perfect experience for the World Cup.

The England manager also confirmed his captain for the first World Cup warm up would be Liverpool's Jordan Henderson, a decision that didn't go down too well:

You can't get them all right Gareth, just don't pick Joe Hart and it's a start!
