If you were tasked with choosing a Real Madrid player who you believed could match or even surpass Cristiano Ronaldo for pace, you'd probably opt for Gareth Bale. However, the Welshman has revealed that there is in fact another, rather unexpected name who can boast just as much, if not more pace this year's Ballon d'Or winner.
Speaking during an interview with Goal.com, the former Spurs winger let slip that a member of the 'Los Blancos' defence could actually give Ronaldo a run for his money in a foot race.

"The quickest player? Apart from me? Varane or Ronaldo" is how Bale answered the question when it was put to him. Now, Varane has been known to demonstrate some impressive bursts of pace from time to time, but even Michael Carrick has surged past Sergio Aguero this season, so the occasional explosion of speed isn't something we would ordinarily place to much faith in.

Also, we're not the only ones who don't have the French centre-half pegged as a speed merchant, with EA Sports only awarding Varane 77 for pace on FIFA 17, this year. Perhaps you need to have a word with Gareth, lads and sort Raphael out with a few more points.
