A young Roy Keane hilariously brushed aside praise from Argentine legend Diego Maradona as he dismissed speculation over his future in a classic interview.

The 49-year-old Irishman emerged as a rising star under Brian Clough at Nottingham Forest and started to attract interest from clubs in the Premier League and in Spain.

Soccer AM has now uploaded a throwback interview with Keane when he was linked with the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Liverpool and Real Madrid.

When the Manchester United legend was asked about his future, he responded: "The position is simple: I'm on a contract for another season and a half. And I've discussed a new contract at Forest.

"And you know, if I get the right deal, I'm prepared to stay because, to me, this is the best club in England.

"Best coaching staff, best manager and I'm still learning my trade. I'm only 21, and I have a lot to learn.

"I don't think of learning in any better place than under Brian Clough."

Keane was then told that the likes of Maradona had spoken highly of him, but the former Forest star wasted no time in saying that he 'didn't take any notice of it.'

The former Republic of Ireland international explained: "Nah, I just don't take any notice of it, you know.

"Just concentrate playing week in, week out for Forest trying to play well -- simple as that."

Keane was on the verge of moving to Blackburn in 1993, only for a costly paperwork error that allowed Sir Alex Ferguson to hijack the deal for United.

The Red Devils legend, who spent 12 years at United, arrived at Old Trafford for a then-British record fee of £3.75m.

Keane lifted seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups and a Champions League in his incredible playing career at United.

Another classic interview with the ex-United skipper went viral after he responded to Ferguson's praise over his performance against Juventus in the club's treble-winning season.
